Eastland Port Ltd (EPL), based in Gisborne, is New Zealand’s most easterly commercial shipping port and the country’s second-largest log exporter. The Port is entering an exciting period of growth, with expanding cruise ship activity and container shipping opportunities on the horizon.

We are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified maritime professionals to join our Marine team as a Marine Pilot / Assistant Marine Manager.

This role is central to the safe and efficient operation of the Port. You will bring an absolute commitment to marine safety and professionalism, working within a close-knit team of experienced maritime specialists. As a visible leader within the marine function, you will also play a key role in maintaining strong, constructive relationships across the Port, commercial partners, and relevant statutory agencies.

About you

You will be an experienced maritime professional who brings sound judgement, calm leadership, and a collaborative approach. You will be comfortable working autonomously while contributing positively to a small, highly skilled team operating in a dynamic port environment.

You will hold:

  • Master Class 1 Certificate of Competency
  • A Pilot’s Licence and/or Pilot Exemption Certificate(s)
  • BRM and/or AMPT certification
  • A strong working knowledge of New Zealand maritime legislation, including Maritime Rules Part 90 and the Port & Harbour Marine Safety Code
  • All requirements for licensing as a Marine Pilot under the NZ Maritime Rules, including relevant health standards
  • The right to work in New Zealand
  • Domicile in Gisborne, or elsewhere in New Zealand, after two years as an unrestricted Pilot
