Maintenance Hand
Gisborne, Te Tairawhiti
A ‘fix it’ role that keeps operations moving
🌊 Work outdoors on the port, on a variety of tasks
💪 Great perks and a competitive wage
The role
We’re after a hardworking and reliable Maintenance Hand to join our Eastland Port team. You’ll be hands-on, keeping our operations in top shape — tackling everything from fencing, concrete pours, and road repairs, through to drainage work, gantry upkeep, and general infrastructure maintenance.
It’s a role for someone who takes pride in doing the job properly but also knows when efficiency counts to get things moving again. You’ll work mostly independently but with the backing of a small, supportive team.
Your hours are Monday–Friday, 40 per week, starting at 7am — predictable, practical, and great for work–life balance. Extra hours come up from time to time, and if you get called out, your effort matters with a minimum call-out payment.
What’s on offer
- Starting wage from $32 per hour, depending on your skill set and licences
- A fully equipped work vehicle to keep your tools on hand and you job-ready
- Life insurance, higher-than-minimum KiwiSaver contributions, fitness subsidy, and more
- Onsite gym and showers to help you stay fit for the work
- A supportive, close-knit team who value getting the job done and looking after each other
What we’re looking for
- 1–2 years’ relevant experience
- Practical skills with a knack for fixing things to a high standard
- Physically fit and strong — heavy lifting required
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions
- Moderate computer skills
- Forklift licence, machine-handling, or welding experience would be an advantage
- Independent but a team player
- Health and safety always front of mind
Why you’ll love it here
This isn’t just another labouring job — it’s a chance to work right beside the sea, on projects that keep our port and community moving. Every day is different, from fixing and maintaining infrastructure to tackling unexpected challenges. You’ll enjoy variety, job security, and the satisfaction of seeing your work make an immediate impact.
