30/07/2025
Permanent - Full Time
Eastland Port, Kaiti Beach
Debarking

Full-time, permanent

  • Trusted mechanical lead across two busy sites
  • A hands-on role that keeps operations moving
  • Variety, ownership, and problem-solving

Keep the cogs turning – literally.
We’re looking for a practical, experienced Maintenance Engineer who thrives on fixing problems, fine-tuning plant, and keeping machinery in top shape. This is a role based in Gisborne supporting our debarking operations, so you'll need to be confident, well-organised, and enjoy working independently, while collaborating with the team.

Your days will be varied—some planned maintenance, some unexpected breakdowns, and plenty of on-the-fly decisions to get operations back on track. When standard fixes won’t cut it, you'll be the one working with machinists or fabricators to engineer solutions.

What you’ll be doing
• Maintaining and repairing debarking plant, machinery, and equipment
• Managing preventative maintenance, shutdowns, and consumables
• Troubleshooting mechanical faults and developing practical solutions
• Coordinating with operations, schedulers, and contractors to minimise downtime
• Keeping accurate maintenance records and safety documentation

What you’ll bring
• 5+ years of mechanical experience in industrial, forestry, or heavy plant environments
• A relevant trade qualification (mechanical preferred)
• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, welding (Gas/Arc/MIG/TIG), and general engineering repairs
• Strong communication and coordination skills
• A can-do attitude and natural problem-solving ability

Why Eastland Port?
We’re a community-minded organisation delivering essential services to the region through Eastland Port, Gisborne Airport, Eastland Debarking, and Northland Debarking. Our team culture is one of ownership, pride, and rolling up our sleeves to get things done.

You’ll enjoy:
• A competitive salary and benefits package
• Higher employer KiwiSaver contributions
• Free life insurance and wellbeing support
• Work that gives you variety, autonomy, and tangible outcomes
